No Thinking Required

Dress (Taylor find at Marshalls); Shoes (Ellen Tracy find at Marshalls); Bag (Naturalizer);
Earrings (Gift); Watch (Fossil);
Dave Haas Photography

When I was in high school, I used to lay out my clothes the day before (did anyone else do this?)... And while I don't technically still lay out my outfits, I usually have an idea of what I want to wear the next day.  I really try to avoid the dreaded morning routine of staring at my closet with glazed eyes and the clock tick tocking away.  On the inevitable mornings when I'm outfit clueless and need to be at work in the next 20 minutes - there is one go-to look that requires literally no thinking. Put on a dress and simply add shoes and an accessory, and you are guaranteed to look pulled together.  A dress really is a girl's best friend (please don't tell Rex I said that)!

Heather, I totally agree! I do the same thing, when I am running short on time and have to get to work, I usually just throw on a dress and head out the door. I love the pleats on the neckline of your dress!

Heather, you look absolutely gorgeous here, especially in that first picture. The dress is perfect! I am big into navy over black these days too... the same effect but something a little new and different. Oh, and I did lay my clothes out the night before in HS :)... I wonder how many fashion bloggers did NOT do this?! :)

I need to be more like you. I hate mornings because I never know what to wear :-/ I end up staring at my closet for like 20 minutes before anything occurs to me. I love your wedges!

Sometimes I really do have to actually lay out my outfit the night before because sometimes I just have no energy and lack creativity so doing it the night before helps me.

That dress is so perfect on you! I totally agree that dresses are the way to go for easy, brainless dressing :) And I still do lay out my clothes sometimes, especially if I know I'm going to be really busy/rushed in the morning - it really does help streamline the routine!

I think we all know that feeling of staring blankly at our closets for 20 minutes in the morning all too well. Dresses really are a girl's best friend (especially this one), you just can't go wrong with it!

I have to say I was laughing at your 'staring in your closet w/glazed eyes' cause that's JUST what I do!

I used to figure out the night before what I'd wear to work, but stopped and now designate the 2 minute teeth brushing time to stare at the hanging clothes, only to still not know what I'm wearing. haha I haven't fully embraced dresses just yet. Still a bit timid.

Love love this dress on you!

Sometimes classic simplicity is overlooked by bloggers; this post is a good reminder of why not to do that. This outfit is just perfect for a day at the office, and the shoes make a nice transition piece into fall.

In school I was that kid who loved picking out back-to-school outfits by July, so I hear ya!
