While on vacation last week, I didn't turn my phone on once... and it was extremely liberating not to be tethered to my smartphone and feel like Pavlov's dog and salivate when my phone lights up or dings with a new alert. A few times I wondered what news I was missing out on, but for the most part it was nice to be present with the people that were in front of me without multitasking. Social media is such a great way to connect, but it can get overwhelming and sometimes dilute the tangible relationships in our lives. Do you ever take breaks from social media?

Great pattern play, Heather! I wish I could disconnect from social media more often. I think the fact that I never get actual vacation kinda justifies my complete dedication ;) I did take a break from my blog over Christmas posting less and that was lovely!

Sounds amazing, honestly. As much as I love my phone (and probably have an unhealthy obsession with Twitter), it's SO nice to get away for a while. It will always be there when you get back! Also - I LOVE the two patterns! They're so perfect together. You look great in that shade of purple.

I need a major break from social media. It gets intense sometimes. Sometimes I forget my phone and I feel so disconnected and then I feel liberated.

When we went on vacation to Anigua we didn't look at emails or the internet for days. It was a huge relief. A pain in the butt when I got back...so far behind, but a great chance to focus on "real life" for a change.

Sometimes taking a break is the most relaxing thing I can do for myself, but it is hard getting over the disconnected feeling!

I don't think I take enough breaks from social media! I did try to this summer when we were up in Itasca though - no wifi options there, so you had to wait until you got into town.

When I went to the Bahamas last year, I had no cell service. So even if I wanted to check my phone, I couldn't...but I didn't miss it at all!

Disconnecting is my absolute fav. Having my work email on my phone makes it so hard to turn off, but it feels so worth it whenever I do.

I am usually on some sort of social media every day, but I do take days off from blogging. It's nice to just take a break. And your pictures from your trip were AH-mazing!! I need some beach and umbrella drinks in my life!! Welcome back!
I think it is great to disconnect. I find it hard to do but I am learning because I feel myself engaging more in real life when I step away from all the sites, blogs and apps for a few hours every day...

Yes, I do take breaks from social media/phones at times, and it is amazing how life still goes on. But also amazing at how much we come to rely on them too!

Lovely outfit and gret mix of prints! Usually when I go on holidays, I take blogging break and if I feel like I update Instagram/Twitter. I think it's very healthy taking blogging breaks because sometimes it is a lot of work and we all need a holiday also to stimulate new ideas! BTW, I'm glad you had such a great time in Punta Cana!
