With so many weddings crammed into the summer months, I quickly got sick of my go to "wedding" dresses and thought I'd try a skirt and top combo. Even though the skirt is black, the length and tiered details make it work for a special occasion, and there is an unwritten rule that states you can never go wrong with sequins, right? It was nice to break the dress mold for wedding attire and mix it up. And how cute is my little "plus one" with his freshly cut doggy hair? He's now acceptable for public appearances...

Oh I love this look! What a great idea for a wedding outfit!! And I have to ask - HOW did you get your bun looking so perfect? I always have flyaways or my hair just doesn't cooperate. That is possibly one of the best top buns I've ever seen!!

Oh Gosh...I wish I looked so stylish when I walk my dog! It's so true that one can tire easily of the dress for weddings and this combo is equally festive and you look gorgeous.
You can NEVER go wrong with sequins ;) That's right! HAHA but I love sequins so much :) Love your skirt and such a great idea! I am having the same issue right now. I don't know whether to get a new dress for the wedding I am going to in November, or to try a top/skirt combo! I think you inspired me to try to create a completely new look for a wedding!

This is totally wedding-appropriate. Great thrift store finds have been tiding me over but if we keep going to weddings at the same pace as this year I'll need to look at skirt-and-top combinations too. I also once wore a pair of silky cropped pants with a lacy shirt and cute blazer...I think you're absolutely right about the tiers, it definitely makes this more 'special event' and less 'night on the town'.
